The Fig & Fox Company: Our Origin Story

Hi! I'm Laura, founder of The Fig & Fox Company. Along with my partner, James, we decide to turn our passion for local food into a venture that shares it with everyone!


Although originally from Peterborough I started my catering career in the seaside town of Aberystwyth where me and James met. I was running an independent bar selling craft gin and local ales while James was the chef at the award winning Nag's Head Inn, Abercych. Our relationship hit the ground running and we would often dream about starting our own countryside restaurant.

Fast forward a couple of years, we put a pin in any plans with the arrival of our son who was diagnosed with severe congenital heart disease. We returned to Peterborough to be closer to family and medical connections but soon discovered the love for food, let alone local produce, wasn't as prominent as it had been in Wales.


When the Coronavirus broke out in Britain, we saw ourselves, our friends and our industry struggle through lockdown. We were shielding for the safety of our son but felt helpless not being able to support the food industry we love.


With all the extra time on our hands, we kept circling around the idea of starting up our business. James's training at Michelin Star restaurants was the perfect foundation to create high end meal kits and we wanted to introduce something to the area that would really rock people's socks!


It's always been our ethos to use local suppliers and I soon started to discover lots of small businesses, artisan producers and fantastic food that we felt deserved to be even more recognised for their deliciousness…


Ta-Dah! The Foxbox was born!

It was the perfect match. We could promote all these wonderful businesses within a 50 mile radius in a monthly subscription box AND create incredible dishes inspired by the local flavours they produce.


Now we've got over a dozen suppliers that will be featuring throughout our subscription box and seasonal meal kit recipes for people to recreate the fine dining experience in their own home.
